The Pen Room project, conceived as a dedicated space for preserving and showcasing a collection of rare and collectible writing instruments, stands as a dialogue between precision, intention, and cultivated elegance. In collaboration with Roshanak Tehrani, Bocaveli approached this project not simply as a storage solution, but as a refined study of how architecture can honor objects of deep personal and cultural value.

Following two years of research and one year of meticulous execution, the Pen Room evolved into a place where craftsmanship, narrative, and silent luxury converge. Every detail—each drawer, light source, material junction, and proportion—was designed with clarity of purpose. The space was envisioned not only to protect a collection, but to elevate its presence, transforming the act of viewing, selecting, and interacting with each pen into a meaningful experience.

The design philosophy centered on restraint and purity: surfaces that absorb rather than distract, geometries that guide the eye without demanding attention, and materials chosen for their longevity, tactile honesty, and quiet sophistication. Each element was crafted to create a controlled environment where the pens could be preserved under ideal conditions, while the viewer is immersed in an atmosphere of focus and respect.

The precision of the layout reflects both the architectural discipline of Roshanak Tehrani and Bocaveli’s commitment to elevating functional spaces into emotional landscapes. Soft, thoughtfully placed lighting reveals the pens gradually—highlighting their craftsmanship and history without overwhelming the senses. The cabinetry, engineered with millimeter-level accuracy, echoes the delicate balance between engineering and artistry inherent to fine writing instruments themselves.

Design Story

For Bocaveli, the Pen Room was far more than a technical commission. It was a journey into understanding how design can protect, frame, and honor personal heritage. Within these walls, simplicity becomes serenity, and precision becomes storytelling. The space serves not just as a room, but as a living archive—where memories, craftsmanship, and human expression converge.

Architecture Characteristics

In the end, the Pen Room is not merely a display environment; it is an experience of reverence and contemplation. It stands as a testament to how architecture and design can preserve value, amplify meaning, and create harmony between human intention and material form. Just as a fine pen captures thought with grace, this room captures the soul of the collection—with clarity, respect, and quiet brilliance.
